Radiation Oncology Nurse

Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute

Position

(Full Time)

The Radiation Oncology Nurse (RN), guided by a comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice, applies the nursing process. The RN reports to the Head Nurse/Clinical Care Coordinator. The RN assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for an assigned tour of duty. This person is cognizant of the philosophy, 

standards, objectives, and policies of the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital, Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center, and the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute.

Education & Experience

Must have completed an approved Nursing Program and passed the RN NCLEX exam.  Holds a current VI RN license.

Specific Requirements

  • Current BLS certification.  
  • NRP, ACLS, and PALS certification as required.  
  • Must be knowledgeable and comfortable working with computers.  

Duties & Responsibilities

 and Responsibilities include: 

  • Formulates, maintains, modifies, and evaluates an individualized age-specific plan of care based on the patient’s assessed needs. 
  • Provides nursing assessment based on interview, examination, observation, and review of the patient’s records. 
  • Develops a goal-oriented care plan based on the nursing assessment, with participation of the patient and significant others. 
  • Identifies and documents nursing problems. 
  • Provides leadership in the delivery of care and nursing practice within the clinical unit. 
  • Participates in unit employee selection through interviewing and the hiring process. 
  • Directs and evaluates all personnel according to hospital, nursing, and unit philosophy and objectives. 
  • Play an active role as a model and resource person, guiding staff in the development of skills and capabilities. 
  • Develops unit activities that support the elements of extending excellence. 
  • Adheres to the SRMC Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable agencies and accrediting bodies. 
  • Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
