Compassionate, Competent, and Comprehensive Care Services and Treatment
Personalized to You, Your Loved Ones, right here, in Your Community

The Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute (CKCI) is a division of the SCHNEIDER REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER. Originally opening in 2005, it provided the Eastern Caribbean region with State-Of-The-Art comprehensive outpatient diagnostic and treatment services, combining clinical services, research efforts, educational and patient support services, all under one roof.
Hurricanes Irma and Maria forced the closure of CKCI in 2017. The hospital lost the ability to provide critically needed Oncology services for our communities and territories, under one roof.
With the support of numerous dedicated and hard-working personnel, we have overcome this hurdle and will reopen the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute, later this year.
Upon opening, Oncology services will include Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology. Learn more about each specialized discipline by hovering over or clicking the buttons below:
Medical oncology is a specialized field focused on diagnosing and treating cancer using medications, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies.
Our dedicated physicians will provide consultations and treatment options to include Biopsies and Tumor Staging, Chemotherapy, Hormone Therapy, Immunotherapy, Targeted Therapy, and Radiation Therapy.
CKCl’s diagnostic capabilities include access to Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, CT Scanning, Mammography, and Diagnostic Pathology.
Surgeons and Oncology specialists collaborate to plan patient treatment and to support data collection. They can confer internationally with physicians and surgeons using modern telecommunications systems during conferences held in the convenient Bennie and Martha Benjamin Medical Auditorium.
The Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute will additionally provide information and resources to our community promoting cancer education, prevention and treatment through screenings, seminars, and public events.
With an impressive level of support from the Virgin Islands community, the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute has created a physical environment designed to promote wellness through physical features as well. Among the donated amenities is a Healing Garden along an outer walkway, the Lynne Cohen Appearance Boutique, and the Patient and Family Resource Library. Patient Navigators provide the opportunity to conveniently access all required services of a facility designed with patient comfort and safety in mind.
The Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute is a most valuable asset, not only to the people of the United States Virgin Islands, but to all of the Eastern Caribbean region. Oncology care, which requires long-distance travel and separation from family, will once again be available in comfortable and familiar surroundings close to home.
