Under the general supervision of the Patient Access Director, the Patient Service Specialist serves as a critical front office representative in the outpatient clinic. The primary function is managing front end outpatient access duties, including patient registration, verification, scheduling and collections in an efficient and courteous manner. Secondary responsibilities require accurate, same-day charge entry preparation to support revenue cycle claims management. The tertiary function involves providing vital medical record support to the Health Information Management (HIM) Department.
The Patient Service Specialist must assume responsibility and accountability for these duties while remaining cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives, and policies of the Schneider Regional Medical Center and the Patient Access Department.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or an equivalent certificate from an accredited institution; vocational or technical certificate of completion; and/or five (5) or more years of applicable experience in related field. Experience working in healthcare setting required with some college preferred.

Risk of exposure to communicable diseases; blood and/or body fluids. Must be able to sit for extended periods, up to 6 hours per day. Must be able to stand for up to 1 hour a day and walk up to 1 hour per day. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to occasionally push/pull up to 50 lbs. (e.g., loaded chart carts or filing bins).

Keen organizational skills are a key component to success in this field, as it requires working with large amounts of data. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or oversight. Excellent time management skills due in part to daily turnaround times. Strong capacity to prioritize fluctuating front-office and back-office work assignments for optimal efficiency.
