The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Gastroenterology will provide comprehensive care to patients with digestive and gastrointestinal conditions. This role involves conducting patient assessments, diagnosing conditions, and developing treatment plans under a gastroenterologist’s supervision. The NP will work closely with the clinical team to ensure high-quality patient care, manage follow-ups, and educate patients on preventative measures and lifestyle modifications.
Education & Experience
Master’s or Doctor of Nursing (DNP) degree from an accredited nursing program. Gastroenterology training or experience is preferred. Minimum of 2-3 years of clinical experience as an NP with a preference for experiences in gastroenterology or related specialties such as internal medicine, surgery, or general practice. A VI Nurse Practitioner license is required.

Duties & Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical history reviews and physical examinations, specifically for gastrointestinal.
Diagnose and manage a wide range of GI disorders, including but not limited to Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), liver disease, and digestive cancers.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as blood work and imaging studies (e.g., CT scans and MRIs).
Develop, implement, and adjust individual treatment plans for acute and chronic GI conditions.
Monitor patient’s responses to treatment, manage side effects, and make necessary adjustments to care plans in collaboration with supervising
Assist gastroenterologists during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as colonoscopies, endoscopies, biopsies, and polypectomies.
Perform pre- and post-procedure patient evaluations, including preparation, sedation monitoring, and recovery assessments.
Work closely with gastroenterologists and other healthcare professionals, including nutritionists, nurses, and surgeons, to coordinate comprehensive care for patients with GI disorders.
Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing clear instructions regarding tests, procedures, and follow-up care.
