Medical Staff Physician – Psychiatrist

Position

(Full Time)

The Medical Staff Psychiatrist must be a qualified medical doctor who has successfully completed a recognized ACGME or AOA residency in Psychiatry. He/she must be licensed to practice medicine in the United States Virgin Islands and must be board-certified in their specialty within 5 years of joining the organization. He/she must be credentialed in Schneider Regional Medical Center as an associate or active member with appropriate privileges in Psychiatry to admit, evaluate, perform history and physical examination, diagnose, consult, and provide non-surgical therapy to mental health patients of any age. The Medical Staff Psychiatrist will evaluate patients by interviewing patients, family, and other people; conducting physical examinations; observing behaviors; reviewing medical history and related documents; selecting, administering, and interpreting psychological tests; ordering laboratory tests; and evaluating results. He/She will develop treatment plans by determining the nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders; establishing treatment goals and methodologies. He/She will treat patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications, discussing progress toward goals with patients, providing instructions, monitoring the effect of medications, and supervising staff provision of services. He/She will maintain interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers. He/She will also ensure quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standards, rules, Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations requirements, and legal regulations, participating in utilization reviews, and remaining available for emergency consultations.

Education & Experience

Completion of residency in Psychiatry in an ACGME-accredited institution. Holds a current VI Medical license

Hazards & Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand for up to 8 hours a day, walk up to 4 hours a day, and sit for up to 4 hours a day. Must be able to occasionally push/pull up to 50 lbs. and lift/carry up to 20 lbs. on an occasional basis. Is aware of the risk of exposure to communicable diseases, blood, and/or body fluids.

Specific Requirements

Current ACLS and BLS certifications are required.
