Medical Laboratory Technician (General)

Position

(Full Time)

Is responsible for performing laboratory tests including waived, moderate and high complexity, to comply with applicable regulations of organizations governing laboratories and according to established procedures to aid the physician in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients in various areas such as Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Serology and Transfusion Services under the supervision of a Medical Technologist. This person assumes responsibility and accountability for the duties of the position and is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives, and policies of the Schneider Regional Medical Center and their respective Department.

Education & Experience

Must have high school diploma or GED and an Associate Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or higher from an accredited college/university.

A valid Medical Laboratory Technician license from ASCP or equivalent. Knowledgeable and comfortable working with computers.

Hazards & Physical Requirements

The physical requirements include standing, walking, bending sitting, lifting up to 25lbs. occasionally, repetitive motions, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Risk of exposure to communicable diseases; blood and/or body fluids, toxic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock and working near mechanical parts.

Specific Requirements

An Associate’s prepared candidate must have a valid Medical Laboratory Technician certification from ASCP or equivalent; A bachelor’s prepared candidate must obtain an ASCP or equivalent certification within 24 months of the hire date. Knowledgeable and comfortable working with computers.
