Is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the overall operation of the Clinical Laboratory Department, including technical direction and supervisory support to MKSHC. Activities included are the performance of chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests performed in the laboratory to obtain data for use in diagnosing and treating diseases. Ensures the services are of the best quality, cost-contained, and carried out expeditiously. Additional responsibilities include recognizing results or problems that require referral to the Pathologist, assuring the competency of all personnel, formulating the budget for the department, maintaining performance improvement activities within the department, and participating in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities and maintaining efficient and effective departmental operations in compliance with all federal and local regulatory laws, standards, and protocols. Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology or master’s degree in hospital administration, public health, or business administration with 2 years of managerial experience in the laboratory of an acute care setting with moderate to high complexity testing; preference with regulatory and accreditation of laboratory operations. MT (ASCP) or equivalent preferred.
