Pharmacy Manager

Position

The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Pharmacy Department to include technical operations as well as supervisory support to the Pharmacy staff. The Pharmacy Manager promotes a team-oriented and service conscious environment, establishes and coordinates orientation, competency assessment, and in-service education. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring effective operations through organizing, scheduling, and monitoring department workload and coordination of supply line issues. In addition, this individual will monitor work quality and productivity metrics and resolve problems as necessary. The Pharmacy Manager has authority to direct or initiate corrective activities within each section of the Pharmacy. This person will identify areas for improvements and develop plans for improving the quality of these processes. The Pharmacy Manager ensures compliance with all applicable quality and accreditation standards. This position collaborates with the necessary stakeholders to ensure effectiveness of services. The Pharmacy Manager reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy Services.

  • ¬†Oversees all areas of the Pharmacy.
  • Monitors quality assurance activities and develops a culture that recognizes quality assurance as an integral component of daily operations.
  • Monitors quality of pharmacy services and ensures compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Prepares work schedules, payroll, and daily assignments for pharmacy personnel.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and coordination of training.
  • Oversee records of all transactions of the pharmacy necessary to ensure adequate control over and accountability for all drugs as required by applicable local and federal laws, rules and regulations to meet all inspection and other requirements governing pharmacy operations.
  • Assists with the development of policies and procedures.

  • Notifies and updates staff regarding medication variance trends and potential areas for improvement; participates in departmental root cause analyses of variances.
  • Serves on selected teams to facilitate the completion of special projects and initiatives within established budget and timeframes
  • Assist with recruiting and selecting employees effectively, using applicable benchmarks and trends, resulting in appropriate staffing levels (e.g., part-time, full-time, temporary pool)
  • Identifies key employee relation issues and reports as necessary to the Director of Pharmacy
  • Effectively communicates by utilizing appropriate communication channels being consistently courteous in all interactions and acting as a communication link for the staff. Keeping abreast of and complying with organizational events through reading posted communications, emails and attending assigned meetings
  • Assists Director of Pharmacy by providing ongoing performance feedback, coaching and development for employees across all shifts
  • Addresses poor performance to encourage and motivate maximum performance and excellence through counseling and other appropriate actions
  • Assists in the preparation and implementation of development plans for all reports; supports ongoing development efforts
  • Has prepared a management development plan for self and participates in developmental activities on a continuing basis
  • Deals directly and effectively with conflict among employees
  • Ensures compliance with all Human Resources policies, regulations, and laws
  • Effectively manages position and time, and appropriately handles interruptions
  • Manages administrative tasks, handling reports and paperwork in a timely manner, to meet established deadlines
  • Perform any other Pharmacy related duties as required and/or assigned.

Hazards & Physical Requirements

Work in this category is majorly sedentary and involves sitting, some standing and walking; employee may be required to lift or pull up to 10 lbs. occasionally.

Specific Requirements

  • Knowledge of Federal and USVI Territory laws and regulations pertaining to dispensing of drugs and narcotics.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy and hospital computer systems and computer-assisted devices.
  • Ability to take initiative and meet objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; exceptional communication skills.
  • Knowledge of project management skills, including the ability to implement new programs and processes.
  • Strong personnel management skills.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge and experience in statistical analysis and reports.
