The Patient Care Attendant (PCA) is an unlicensed nursing attendant who works collaboratively with other members of the health care team to provide safe, quality, and basic nursing care to patients. The PCA works under the direction of the Registered Nurse or other licensed nursing professional to provide supportive care to patients. The role involves attending to a variety of patients’ needs including assessing vital signs and helping with daily activities that they are unable to complete on their own while receiving medical care.
